Sacred walks in Stockholm

Each Saturday evening between 7-9pm you’ll find volunteers from St. Peter’s church walking through Central Station in Stockholm sharing food, warm drinks and fruit with vulnerable neighbors who shelter there. The simple prayer before we leave with each group is that we might be the hands and feet of Christ, and that we may see Christ in our neighbor and allow him to minister to us as well. Over this past term we have seen new people feeling a desire to serve signing up to join the walk. Many have never had an experience like this and we are seeing God working in their lives as they step out in faith and serve, and are blessed by the people they meet.

One of the fruits of St. Peter’s faithful presence in the station is that relationships have developed with the people there to the point where they now feel welcome to come to the church for fellowship on Thursdays and often for Sunday worship. This past term around 40 people gathered weekly to share in fellowship in the church hall at St. Peter’s.

St. Peter’s is not a large congregation and has challenges as an inner city church. And yet there was a hunger among their leadership to listen to Christ’s call to serve him with the gifts they have and in the place where they are. God called and they responded and as they step out they are experiencing the joy of following Christ, and the joy is spreading to include others. I am so encouraged to see the reality of God’s promises revealed through these simple acts of faith and trust. Christ calls, we follow and he takes care of the rest in His way and his time.

One of the gifts of these past months has been connecting with Theo who is a member of Credo, a Christian student association in Sweden. Theo serves on the leadership team that networks students among four campuses in Stockholm. They hold weekly small group Bible studies, host an Alpha groups, and meet for weekly prayer on campus. Theo is passionate about living out his faith on campus and seeing his fellow students come to know the love of Christ and follow him.

Now Theo is praying that he can begin a small group at the Swedish Defense University where he studies. We have met for several prayer walks where we are praying for students and asking for God to open doors for a student group to form here. He he started an instagram outreach and designed flyers to hang in the student commons.

Pray for Theo and that he would experience God’s encouragement as he steps out in faith to start this group. Pray for his walk with the Lord and his leadership on the Credo team in Stockholm.

Praise God for His work on the University campuses in Stockholm, Christian students are being nurtured in their faith and new people are checking out their small groups and Alpha. We can see that Holy Spirit is at work drawing new people to Christ.
