Ministry in Lund, Sweden
Eric and Bonnie Sparrman bringing dinner to the church
Visit to Serve Globally personnel in Lund
28 February 2024
Lund is one of Sweden’s oldest cities and is located near Malmö. Because of the university and several major companies, there are an estimated 20,000 internationals that live in the city.
A few years ago, a local congregation called Västerkyrkan had a vision to reach out to English speakers and invited Eric and Bonnie Sparrman to help plant a new fellowship. Lund International Fellowship gathers on Wednesday nights for dinner, worship and small group Bible study and discussion.
Bonnie shares: “We are grateful for a growing group of energetic folks who have joined us. A successful fall semester of Alpha gave way to The Prayer Course this spring where we see greater vulnerability and trust growing between our members, many of whom are graduate students at Lund University.”
I was touched to see Eric and Bonnie’s warm hospitality and love for these international students. Though some of the members have never set foot in a church before, they feel at home and share openly with each other.
“God is moving amongst our members, deepening their faith, which has inspired important God-led decisions in people's lives,” Bonnie adds.
Life International Fellowship gathers on Wednesday nights for dinner, worship and small group Bible study and discussion. International students are connecting and growing in their faith and inviting friends to join!
Revitalization initiative
The Sparrmans are also part of a revitalization initiative in a church community just outside Lund. On this particular Sunday, Eric led the service and preached. Bonnie read Scripture. All in Swedish!
It was a joy to be able to play guitar with Eric on the wonderful old hymn, “What a friend we have in Jesus.”
Pray with us:
For the Sparrmans who are in the process of building a core leadership team for the international fellowship. For God to bring leaders who have a long term vision for residing in Lund and supporting the ministry.
For seekers who experience Christian community for the first time and are open to learning more about Christ and following him.
