The Rife’s in Edinburgh
One of the great blessings in my ministry as a Regional Coordinator is visiting our colleagues in the places where they are serving. In mid November I visited Rob and Rae Rife in Edinburgh. They are now in their fifth year of service and it was a joy to see Rob thriving in ministry. He continues to have a focus on recovery ministry and hosts several gatherings per week. Being a gifted musician and worship leader Rob combines these gifts to create services that connect with a wide range of people in recovery. With St. James as his base, he organizes contemplative prayer services and open mic nights where people can express their creativity in a supportive and affirming community. He is also leading the worship team at St. James and supporting the ministry through preaching once per month.
Pray for:
-A friend that Rob has walked with over several years and is now in a dark time in his road to recovery.
-For St. James church and their witness to Christ’s reconciling and saving love in their neighborhood.
-For weekly gatherings of Creative Recovery Initiative that Rob leads. For God’s healing and hope to be experienced in the community.
-For God’s Spirit to encourage Rob and kindle faith and hope as he holds the pain and struggle of many people.
This is the hall where St. James holds its worship services and hosts many community outreach events. Ian, the pastor of St. James shared with me that in the past year they have welcomed 20 new young adults into the fellowship. They are drawn to the many service opportunities and several have taken leadership roles in the church. In Edinburgh and around Scotland where many churches are closing and in decline it is so hopeful to see the buds of growth and life blooming in St. James!
